2017 Day 6: Four Minutes Overtime

“Praise the Lord, my soul who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases” (Psalm 103:2-3)

Couple of years ago during wintertime, I experienced trouble breathing due to seasonal allergies. And it got so bad that the medicines I usually took did not work anymore.

One night, my headache was killing me and I had a fever too. I thought that there was no way I could lead Bible study the next day. While I was struggling to decide whether or not to go, the Holy Spirit inspired me to pray. I said this to God: “Lord, if you’d like me to lead the Bible study tomorrow, please protect me. Let me breathe freely without coughing or shortness of breath during those two hours of Bible study.”

The next day, all the sisters prayed for me during the leaders’ pre-study prayer meeting, and my headache was all gone even before we said “Amen.” As she walked with me out of the prayer room, one of the group leaders told me that she would keep praying for me during the 38 minutes of group discussion that we were about to lead. I told her that I had actually asked God to protect me for the entire two hours of Bible study. Her response: “You are so bold!”

As it went, I was in good shape the whole time. Not until the very last few minutes of our lecture did I start coughing. I was puzzled a little bit then. However, when I got home, I received an e-mail from our lecturer in which she apologized for running four minutes overtime. I thanked and praised God immediately, for He not only heard my prayer but also fulfilled my request precisely, to the minute.

I believe that those four minutes of overtime on that day were what God designed for me. He wanted me to have this special experience of His presence and protection.

Reflection Questions:

  1. When you encounter difficulties, who do you turn to first for help?
  2. After praying and trusting God, would you move on with a mind at peace, ready to receive what God has planned for you?
  3. Are thanking and praising God the first things you do when He answers your prayers?
  4. Would you change the way you pray if you knew that God would definitely answer your prayers?
