For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Eph 2:10)
Work is a dirty word. No one likes to work. We look forward to time off, vacation, and retirement.
Ironically, I have found that the times when I have worked hard are the times I have enjoyed life the most!
As a mother of three, I have experienced the hard work and daily demands of caring for the family—at twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week, it is a job requiring constant overtime with no vacation. Yet I would not have traded all that hard work for the lottery jackpot!
My job now as the Director of Children’s Ministry of a church of over one thousand people is hard work! There is no downtime in ministry. It is ongoing, demanding… and satisfying! At the end of the day, as I sink my tired body into my Memory Foam mattress, I thank God for work.
There is something about work that is gratifying, even enjoyable. I believe it is because God has designed us to work. He has prepared the work for us to do. Our fulfillment and joy comes when we do God’s will and work to serve others.
Sitting behind a desk with accounting ledgers, or teaching high school students, or driving a delivery truck may appear like just a job that pays your bills. But in reality, someone out there is benefitting from your work. All work is a work of service.
Think about your abilities, personality, and opportunities that God has given you. Now get to work and use those gifts. There is no better way to enjoy life!
